Waiting for the Turtles

Last night we tried to stay awake to see the turtles come to shore and the baby turtles hatch from their eggs, but all that didn't happen until one and we were asleep by 11 -- can't someone get these turtles on an earlier schedule? But we are determined to stay up no matter how late tonight.  Akumal is like turtle central and the beach here at Las Villas Akumal is staked with little penants with the dates of when the eggs were laid.  I hear as soon as the turtles break out of their eggs they make their way into the water.

The night watchman here said he will knock on our door when the turtle thing starts happening.  The beach is patroled each night by people from the local sanctuary to safeguard the eggs and the baby turtles.

In the meantime, here is a photo of the shrimp dish I had yesterday afternoon at La Cueva del Chango which is the Cave of the Monkeys.  Tomorrow we go to see monkeys in the jungle with Adriana Arriola Mora and then to Coba to climb the Mayan pyramids, ride bikes on the sacbes or ancient roads and watch a Mayan sunset dance.
